Companies have been desperate to muscle in on the plethora of opportunities available on mobile. First, it was the race for apps; now it’s the desire to own the home screen. The battle for the home screen came to fruition following Facebook’s much maligned launch of Home in mid-April. The app, which replaces the mobile home screen on Android devices with photos and status updates from a user’s Facebook Newsfeed, has rightly been panned by critics for being too intrusive. Consumers have agreed; more than half of all Facebook Home’s reviews on Google Play have a rating of just one star.
Facebook has since announced its decision to delay rolling out Home across Europe. Now, Everything.me is hoping to fill the void and fight Facebook. Already launched in the US, the app allows your home screen to adapt based on your current needs. For example, if you search for Homeland, the app will pull up the relevant apps and websites that allow you to find out more about the series and watch episodes. It also works for search queries, delivering localised results for queries.
The app has already received over 350,000 downloads in the US and is due to be rolled out in the UK and Spain. It is certainly getting better reviews than Facebook Home. We recommend you take a look.
