Apple’s Keynote was met with the usual hubbub this week, not least its announcement of a new music service, in-car support – and a brave new colour scheme.
First up, the new iTunes Radio is already being touted as a “Spotify Killer”. That’s an overstatement, but it will certainly change the current landscape. The new service will be free to iOS device owners and iTunes users, who number some 300m. Spotify has 6m, for context. Major record labels are on-board, and its ad-supported version will offer unlimited listening.
Coming in 2014 will be iOS in the car. It will mean seamless experiences with compatible dashboards, and integration with Siri which should offer plenty of potential to app developers. BMW rained on the parade immediately, saying they would not redesign their cars for Apple – more to the point, it’s a threat to their own aspirations…
Finally, we had a play with the new iOS7 – it’s very colourful. Apple have dropped their famous natural textures, preferring a neon colour scheme – which has immediately given rise to a little bit of Tumblr-based bants: don’t miss jonyiveredesignsthings.tumblr.com. The internet can be cruel.
