The Birdcage pub in East London has been hosting a social media-centric TV show in recent weeks – but it’s not on TV. Indeed, it’s being screened exclusively on Google+ Hangouts.
Scheduled for six episodes, The Fox Problem has a loose editorial line but actively encourages the content to be shaped live by its viewers. Participants can easily jump onto the the Google Hangout to be featured live, and the hosts, three famed presenters from traditional TV channels, prefer to view the show as a ‘party in the pub with your pals’. The jaunty hangout features one of the stars of TV show Made in Chelsea, alongside a musical guru who sings out tweets live as they come in.
It’s a souped-up social media bonanza with content flowing through a suite of social networks, including Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Google+, Facebook and YouTube. The show is an interesting take on social TV and social content production, so we’re looking forward to any insight into the future of TV formatting, and the potential of channels through which it can be delivered…
